Letter from the Asilomar Superintendent

Asilomar

Welcome to Asilomar Conference Grounds – a beautiful retreat known as Monterey Peninsula's 'refuge by the sea.' The Asilomar setting is one that instills reflection and inspiration, tranquility and splendor, renewal and tradition. The architect Julia Morgan enhanced the surroundings with her use of natural materials in the construction of the buildings she carefully sited here.  The sense of comfort provided by these structures makes it easy to feel as one with the environment.

The year 2006 commemorates Asilomar's 50th year as a California State Park. Asilomar actually began 95 years ago in March of 1911 when it was suggested that the YWCA establish a permanent home for their Summer Leadership Conferences. Asilomar became a place for rest, relaxation, recreation, informal conference and social activity. That tradition continues today with visitors from around the world convening in conferences, family and friend reunions, weddings and celebrations. We hope you will be able to join us in remembering those who so thoughtfully created and then preserved this wonderful place for us to enjoy today.
